About Paul

A native of New York, Paul received his B.A. from Cornell University and M.S. and PhD in Neurosciences from University of California, San Diego. He recently retired from the UCSD Department of Psychiatry after a productive 30-year career investigating the brain mechanisms underlying schizophrenia and the antipsychotic drugs used to treat this severe brain disorder.

During his retirement, Paul has developed his passion for nature photography. He especially enjoys creating macro images of subjects such as insects and flowers that highlight the details and patterns that usually go unnoticed. Birds are another one of his favorite photo subjects.

He and his wife, Lesley, own Shilling Productions where together they sell his photography and her unique jewelry. Paul has exhibited his award-winning photography in numerous local shows and competitions. His images have been published in the book, San Diego’s North County Coast: A Photographic Portrait and in Nature’s Best magazine. In addition, he has judged many photography competitions.

Paul’s love for teaching is currently reflected in his training other photographers how to organize, manage and edit their images in Lightroom Classic, and also how to edit using Photoshop. You can view some of his images at www.shillingphotojewelry.com
